Arrows made silent, efficient kills. Some of the oldest arrow points were made of bone. Arrow shafts were usually made from local vegetation. Bows to give these arrows flight were made from wood that was readily available, or could be traded. Woods used included ash, cedar, osage orange, yew, hickory and other native trees. Together, the bow and arrows made a formidable weapon for war, or a prized hunting tool. They were a huge part of the American Indian culture.
